Whole datasets rather than summaries, searchable and sortable down to the individual record. Every figure carries the document it came from, and every caveat sits on the row. Nothing on this site asks to be taken on trust.

Published is not the same as usable
Every project starts from published public records and ends with a methodology page. Where a number needs a caveat, the caveat travels with it: a boundary change, a thin baseline, a preliminary year. The tools start with what changed. Where the records can carry an explanation, they offer one; where they can't, they say so.
Sidetown Labs is the independent data project of Joel Rush, an Arkansas-based educator, entrepreneur, and data analyst whose work has included research and evaluation roles at the University of Arkansas and the Hot Springs School District, and founding The Learning Institute, an interim assessment, education analytics, and professional development company. It is independent of the agencies whose records it uses.
